     Online Flowers

Online flowers? Makes one think of a washing line, strung quite high above the ground, and damp wooden pegs holding a vast variety of colourful flowers, all in a row, on display. The flowers are wet with early morning dew not yet evaporated by the sun rising slowly over the cliff in the distance, and the drops of dew on the delicate petals glisten like diamonds in a sunny jewellery store window.

Imagine walking below the line, shading ones eyes against the sun and the bright sparkle of the dew still on the blossoms, watching the flowers come alive in the sunlight, leaving the wilted night far behind them. It’s almost as if they were real, really real, and if you stood on your toes and put your ear instead of your nose near them, you may just hear them whisper: “What a bad night that was, but look what a beautiful sunny day it is today!”

The online flowers will watch you as you walk below them, and wonder why you think it’s just a breeze when you see them fluttering on the line. It’s not a breeze; it’s each of the flowers wriggling for attention, elbowing their neighbours as they compete for attention: “Pick me! Pick me!

Some of the roses have thorns, and although sturdier and stronger than the poppies next to them, the non-existent breeze seems to blow the roses more, as they wickedly use their thorns to push aside the poppies and thrust themselves up high on the line, to stand out from the crowd. You cannot avoid noticing them, but the chrysanthemums and daisies are beautiful too, and, oh, look over there – whole floral bunches call out to you too, sweetly, and quietly: “Look at us, a mixture of blooms and delicate greenery, we’re not as bold and rude as the rose and have no rose amongst us with thorns to hurt you.” There are so many choices. Which flowers do you choose?

Even the pegs on the line are beginning to look good as you remain undecided, then you spot a computer on a lavishly decorated stand at the end of the washing line.

Ah! What a big help! You realise you need to be prepared. What occasion are the blooms for? If they’re to decorate the rooms of your own home, think about matching style and colour schemes. If they’re for your friend’s ill little girl in a hospital ward, remember to add a cute little teddy bear, and don’t forget to add a small note or greeting card for that someone special.

The online flowers are all on the computer, split into occasion and colour categories to make your choice easier. There are long stems and short stems, bold petals and delicate silky petals. There are different colour ribbons to tie around your chosen floral displays and various gifts like teddies, chocolate and champagne to add to your thoughtful gift.

You click the mouse when prompted to do so, and are told to go home and wait for your flower delivery, and you start waking away to do just that – but the flowers on the line are all screeching at you, begging you not to let them spend another dark lonely night alone with just each other, and those nasty roses. They want special attention. They want to make somebody happy. So you go back to the computer and buy them all.
